OCTOBER of 2012

IMPORTANT NOTICE : VIEWS, IDEAS AND EXPRESSIONS posted in this blog are entirely those of the author. No, repeat NO, cognisance against anyone else may please be taken for any discrepancy that may be found in this blog.......being AJ.

01 Oct 12/ Monday.....A bright, lovely day with a hint of nip; weather is getting ready to change its attire! Had an OK day at EBS with some calculations, some equations, some good and some not too good news. Good news was Abhinav's birthday, made special by the efforts of Neha and Sumiti. The girls managed to produce a Black Forest from nowhere during lunch time. Since Naudie was fasting, I polished off his lunch, that in any case, was sponsored by Bhumil (rather her dear mom.....thanx for yummy curry and soft paranthas).

The not so good part was the confirmation that there would be two tests on Saturday (hell, NO!!), one on next Monday, one presentation each on this Wednesday and Thursday! Are you wondering as to how did they leave out Tuesday? Well, Gandhi ji (and more importantly as per me, Lal Bahadur Shastri ji was born on 02 Oct ) and that event of 19th century came to our rescue!! I am sure had it been not there, there would have been something interesting even tomorrow!

02 Oct 12/ Tuesday...... Today is the day that automatically gets related to truth, honesty and confessions. So, we take this opportunity to put forth our own confessions.......

No 1...Nothing beats a sudden dose of sugar when it comes to      keeping awake in the class, especially so if you are not addicted to smoking or chewing tobacco. While chocolates and gums do help, there are special occasions that need special doses..... something like this....

(How can one say NO to such a yummy, home-made kheer?)

No 2... We have a wi-fi campus but as mentioned before, our own deeds, at times, lead to a situation wherein admin is forced to shut down the system or block the access once in a while. Also, most of the faculty members do not permit the use of laptops during the classes and surfing through cellphones remains the only options. Now, to beat the system,we have invented the 'NOTEBOOK' (in lieu of Facebook) system.....

(Our own NOTEBOOK....we are sure, some idea like this only would have given birth to FACEBOOK)

No 3.....  Well it is tough staying awake through all those sessions, we do not hesitate in making use of amenities as available in the classrooms......

(When the going gets tough:
The tough goes to sleep)

No 4..... We had some real hot months since the beginning of the course. Now, toes are not supposed to be seen.....yes, not seen! So, it may be OK if you are not caught while airing your toes....

( Pretty tough catching us red handed (read.... improperly dressed in the cafe)

No 5..... Summers also necessitate some cooling off. Now that we are getting financially wiser, why should we pay AC bills when we can really 'cool it' with Sattu water.....

(No other source of electricity required.... this is called Induced Cooling)

                          ......And the life goes on!!

03 Oct 12/ Wednesday.....Just another day in many ways but it also had a lesson for many. What a proper dress can do to your confidence and also to the presentation was what was illustrated once again today. I am sure while one faculty member, by deducting/awarding some marks, did re-assert the point made by BC faculty, many of my friends would ignore the unwarranted comments from a senior {who, incidentally wants to be like a big industrialist one day!! (name of the businessman withheld for security reasons......because I am sure that if that businessman actually hears about this guys's ambitions, the former will commit suicide...ha, ha!!)} about people wearing formals. I sincerely hope and pray that the good sense will prevail in the end!!

Since the blog has just started, people have been slow in responding to my requests for pics and such like things. Today, the BOMB reacted finally and I am posting a few pics from her collection. These pertain to last month. While talking about Bomb, let me share that while Section B has a Bomb, our section, ie A, has a Sutli Bomb (who rains!!...hahahahah). Anyways, here are the pics....

(Spot if you can, Bomb and Sutli Bomb!!)

(This Kanhaya will not survive for long, I am sure!!)

(Puraani Jeans (oh sorry, puraani jeans are banned in EBS).....aur Guitar)

(Nothing succeeded like success for these guys during Inizio Festa)

(Happiness.....God Bless!!)

(The Argumentative Indians and spicy Cholay....what a combination!!
And no wonder that vendor has disappeared)

So, that is it for today......have fun, guys!!

04 Oct 12/ Thursday....Had a test (1) on Saturday, had a presentation yesterday, had a test (2) today;  Tomorrow, one Test (3) and one presentation lined up; One more test (4) on Saturday : One test (5) on Monday and then two assignments and a presentation............For the first time in my life, I can understand how does a guinea pig feel inside a TEST LAB!! {And believe me, we are as clueless as that poor test species because our programmes change at the drop of the hat!! (Whose hat is that; remains a mystery)}. Our programme for the week underwent a change, yet again, today! But seriously, this is one aspect of life here that really upsets our cart on almost daily basis. If best learning comes through watching or observing, is this the ideal way to teach us management?? Not many will say YES, I am sure!!

Among all these tests and trials, such moments come as a respite........with Navdeep, Manoj, Er Rastogi, Varsha,Richa, Aishwarya and Neeru at EBS ....

 (Mushkil Waqt......Just Smile)

(Can you spot the odd man out? Someone who is in a world of his own?)

 (Lo, kar lo baat!!)

(Naudie is on receiving end of our wits and it is because of his frequent mood swings of late. Manoj is trying to cheer up Mr Cool of our group!)

But as they say......Baaki Sabb Theek hai.....CHEERS!!

06 Oct 12/ Saturday....A hectic week comes to an end. Had two presentations and three tests in addition to, of course, day to day routine. And it has been a mixed package for most of us. Some of us did well here and screwed it up there... basically a pendulum of a performance and, thus, the related feel. Anyways, lets travel back in time to Friday (yesterday). This was how it was after the QT test...

                                        (The looks say it all)

(......except this happy face; exceptions are always there)

Now, the reasons could be many but for me, it was simple... a calculation that simply went wrong. One of those days! The very next day, i.e, today, we had another test. Mercifully, it went off pretty well. And then it also marked the beginning of a slimmer weekend..... shorter but a well deserved break.

One of the best things with being young is the great resilience power that comes along in this phase of life. Some guys from our class were fined for triple riding (you see, management also teaches us how to make best use of our resources!!). It happened soon after the test.....

(A princely sum of ₹ 100 for triple riding)

But as I said before, ability to bounce back, especially when you have been wronged despite being wrong yourself (ha, ha), is the greatest when you are young. So, the gang looked at the positive aspect (duly confirmed by the cop who had fined them).... they would not be fined again for the same offence for next 24 hours. So, that's how they turned the tide in their favour by going triple riding for the day and by adding one more on need basis....

(When life throws lemons at us, we would rather make lemonade and say, "CHEERS!")

As a part of my social responsibilities, I do keep reminding people about the need to wear protective gear or to drive slowly and issues like that. But when you have such a logic in front of you, all you can do is smile and appreciate the spirit called GENERATION##.

There are times, when you just need to sit and reflect, all by yourself. But there are also times when you touch base with friends and talk about your dreams, your plans, your apprehensions......

(Looking at our present from a future perspective........EBS!!)

(.....And getting re-energised in the process)

Now, to certain issues that need a look-see by management. Firstly, post MAT results, many kinds of gossips are doing rounds in our batch. More than anything else, it is the same old issue of Communication Gap at certain levels. All that needs to be done is a frank and honest talk (if issue has been decided) or an interaction with students to understand their take on the issue (before a final call is taken) or a simple assurance that issue is being deliberated upon. While such a grapevine may bring no material harm, as a member of the family, ERA, I would feel much more comfortable without such talks doing rounds in the environment.

Next is the same old thing about time management. Whatever we may be taught or told during our sessions, the fact remains that the best way to learn is by observing things that actually happen as per teaching....

(The exam was to begin at 0900h. But it actually began 12 minutes after this pic was taken!)

This one, of course, comes with a twist. While our campus is pretty well maintained and has a class of its own, there are times when things do get neglected, like our classroom at 0830h on Friday....

(The carpeted floor had lots of muck on it.......each black spot here is actually a piece of junk and not some colour per se)

But let me mention in the same breath that though we did not have the classes on Saturday (the exam was being held somewhere else), it was a delight to see the whole thing getting vacuum cleaned in the morning...... and that too before this pic was posted here! So, there is a system in place and it is just like anywhere else that things do appear otherwise at times. I think all we need is a bit of patience OR a constructive feedback; there is no place for sheer criticism. That is how we can contribute towards well being of our institution.

One thing, however, came across as simply disgusting! It was during lunch time on Friday as we sat down with our plates and tiffins, suddenly a disgusting stink took over the aroma of food and before we could realise what was happening, we were  already fighting a gag reflex like sensation. And moments later when we actually realised who the culprit was, we simply threw our hands up in the air...... FUMIGATION!! How can one even think of fumigating a place where people are dining and having a well deserved break!

The weekend finishes at a fair note. Exam of Saturday was well framed and, thus, was reasonably well answered. There was a mini cricket tourney between four teams (two of our batch, viz, Sections A & B, one of senior batch and one of faculty). And yet again, it was Section A (our section) that came out on tops, bagging the trophy and three awards out of five!! Kudos.

                (pic awaited)

But then there is a friend circle that, despite having been shattered during division of the class in July this year, remains intact. May God bless this bunch of EBSians12'14.......

(Almost all of us are here, except Manoj who despite being from Section A, is missing (busy with someone from Section B...hahahahah) !! BTW, our group stands distributed into two sections and if we include the fringe (but equally important) members of our gang, all of them barring self, Naudie, Bhumil and Bharti, are in Section B)

The upcoming week is again pretty packed with two huge assignments, one frightening exam....... and I wish my fellow EBSians all the best!! And guys remember, even though we may crib today, some day, all of us, without a single exception, will say.....

Mujhe phir se school ka bastaa thamaa de, maa
Mujhe zindagi ke sabaq kaheen zyaada mushkil lagte hain. . .!!
